ABOUT FOCUS INSIDE

Reconnect with Yourself

Our lives have never been more digital, but does it make us any happier? Do we have more time for the things that truly matter?
We check our phones every 4 to 10 minutes when we aren't sleeping, and a third of young people check them in the middle of the night, too. One third of us would rather give up sex than our smartphones. We feel completely helpless if we don't have the internet and we get into panic if our phone runs out of battery. Aren't we all a little too "digitized?"

Research shows that being “always on” makes us more stressed, and less focused and creative. We risk becoming mere consumers of information and technology, if we let our devices manage our attention.

Focus Inside is a unique pop-up project that discusses our digital consumption habits. Its format can be described as an "art gallery meets a yoga studio in a science conference and they all have fun together." Through artistic installations, practical workshops, a competition and a hackathon, talks, and panel discussions we ask how technology is changing us and what we can do about it. For six days, we explore ways to slow down and be in the moment.

We don't need to get rid of our devices, but we do need to start using them more mindfully. So we can trust ourselves again, and stay more connected with the people around us.

Festival is funded by Westminster City Council, in association with the Church Street Futures Group, to involve and engage the local community in arts and cultural activities as part of the Church Street regeneration programme.
